We almost didn’t start this.
Not because we didn’t have anything to say — we had plenty. But when we looked around, every story we found was someone else’s. All of them real. All of them worth telling. None of them ours.
So we made something that is.
The Cast Family — celebrating 27 years together.
Who We Are
We’re The Cast Family — Mr. Cast, Mrs. Cast, and Eri. We live in Arizona. We drink too much coffee, drive a Tesla, and have a daughter who paints better than most adults we know.
Eri is 21. She has Down syndrome. She is also an artist, an adventurer, and the most socially confident person in any room she walks into. She has opinions about where she wants to go, what she wants to wear, and what she wants to eat — and she will let you know if you get it wrong.
She is the whole point of this. She always has been.
The Phone Call That Started Everything
After Eri graduated, she tried a day program. Three months in, she was calling us constantly — just to stay connected, just to be heard. She wasn’t joining the activities. She’d found her way into the director’s office and made herself at home there, because that’s what Eri does — she finds her people.
Then one day she called Vanessa, the owner, herself.
“I graduated,” she said.
Vanessa, gently: “Yes honey, you did — back in May.”
Eri: “No. I graduated.” And she said the name of the program.
That was it. She was done. She called to say so, directly, to the person who needed to hear it. That’s Eri advocating for herself in the most Eri way possible — no drama, no argument, just clarity.
It was funny in the moment. And then it was one of those moments that sits with you.
We knew something had to shift. So we started this.
What Romalite Is
Romalite is built around our actual life. That means real things — trips we’ve taken, things we love, what it looks like to navigate adulthood with Down syndrome and figure it out as you go.
We share things we genuinely stand behind. You’ll see an affiliate disclosure where it applies — that’s us being upfront. It never changes what we say or what we share.
Mostly we just want to show up and be real about what this life looks like. The good days and the harder ones. The funny moments and the ones that sit with you.
