How We Built Romalite — And Why It Took This Long

By The Cast Family · April 2026

Two years. That’s how long this took.

Not because it’s that complicated — though some of it is — but because life kept happening in between. Caring for Eri. Our own health. The everyday stuff that fills up every hour you thought you had free. We’d make progress, then life would need us more, and Romalite would sit for a while. Then we’d pick it back up.

That’s just honest.

We started with the foundation

Before anything else existed, we set up the business properly. LLC. Business name. Tax ID. Bank account. Social media handles locked down across every platform — all @RomaliteHQ — creator accounts set up, tax information added.

We did that part first because we knew if we didn’t, we’d be doing it later while also trying to do everything else. One less thing to untangle down the road.

Two years of learning in the margins

We are not people who grew up on social media. We didn’t have a background in branding or marketing or web design. We started from close to zero.

In the pockets of time we could find — in between appointments, in between everything else life brings — we researched. Took classes. Learned WordPress from scratch. Built our own website. Figured out how affiliate marketing works. Learned about AI and what it can actually do to help a small operation move faster. Read everything we could find about what actually builds a brand.

The answer was always the same: consistency, and a real plan for getting in front of people.

So that’s what we’re starting now.

Launching — right now, with what we have

We held off until we felt like we understood enough to do this right. Maybe that made us slower than some people. Maybe it means we’re a step ahead in other ways. Either way it’s the truth.

The website you’re reading is what we built. The accounts are live. We haven’t been big posters — honestly, we were still learning — but that changes now. Real content, real consistency, documented in public so you can see what it actually looks like when a regular family with a full life tries to build something from scratch.

We hope you’ll be here for it.

If you’re thinking about doing this too

Other families have asked us about this. Not just DS families — anyone who wants to build something and doesn’t know where to begin. Here’s what we’d say:

  • Set up the business first. LLC, tax ID, bank account, handles. Do it once, do it right.
  • Learn when you can, not all at once. We did this in pieces over two years. That’s fine.
  • Pick one platform and get consistent. TikTok or Instagram. Everything else comes later.
  • Get a website you own. Social profiles aren’t yours. Your site is.
  • Start with who you are. The rest follows.

If you want to talk through any of it, reach out. At some point we hope to help others the way we wish someone had helped us when we were figuring this out at midnight while everyone else was asleep.

For hosting — we run Romalite on BigScoots, managed WordPress hosting that doesn’t require a tech background to run. If you’re building your own site, it’s where we’d point you. (Affiliate link — we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.)

And if you just want to see everything we’re up to in one place — all our platforms, our shop, our favorites — our Linktree has it all.

We’ll keep you posted.

That’s not a figure of speech. We’re going to document this — the wins, the slow weeks, the things that work and the things that don’t. Follow along and you’ll see it in real time.

We’re glad you’re here at the beginning.
